Matthew Good plays the Status Lounge

My favourite artist, Canadian to boot, played in town on Canada Day. As an added bonus I was asked to be a second shooter for my regular assistant Dan.
I have photographed over 50 bands over the years for various publications and venues but this time was very different. Being a second shooter in a small venue meant that I didn’t get the prime shooting location in front of the stage and I needed to get a different perspective than Dan. I positioned myself on house left/stage right which is opposite to how I normally would shoot. This is the weaker side to shoot Matthew from as you don’t get to capture the concentration on his face as he is looking down at the fretboard. On the bright side, being the second shooter I could pick my spots on when to shoot and try to get something a little different.
Was it my best concert shoot, honestly, no. But I got to enjoy two of my biggest loves, photography and live music.
